Box Clasp...

Finally!  Here is the second box clasp I made.  I posted pics before it was complete, but here is the final product.  I decided to string a necklace on which to use it...I liked it so much, I have to keep it:-)

I will eventually make another one to sell...

On hold...

So...creating is on hold for a few days while I rearrange and reorganize my studio in an attempt to maximize the small space that I have.  My DH dragged my workbench in from the garage and put it back together again in my studio because I needed a better place to spread out my jewelry stuff.  Right now I have part of my tools and supplies in my studio, and the other part in the dining area.   It's not that conducive to creating because I always have to get up to go get something out of the other room.

I decided that wouldn't work anymore, and am going to put my soldering station in my studio directly in front of the window---that way there will be ventilation.  Ventilation is the reason I currently have it in the dining area.  There are plenty of windows to crack when needed.  However, it just isn't convenient, so a change is due.

"Wow!", you say, "A whole room dedicated to making jewelry!" Well, not really.  I also have my sewing and card making areas in there.  I know I probably have too many interests, but it's the ADD in me.  I have to have a variety of things going on...

Anyway, hopefully I'll be back up and running in another day or so...we'll see!
Back to sorting wire snippets according to metal type (that's a whole other post!).

Demo...

That would be "demonstration", not "demolition"...I help my first demo at Michael's today.  It wasn't at a really high traffic time slot, but I still had fun.  As I was working, I was marveling at the fact that I was getting paid for doing something I love!  It was amazing.  It didn't matter that I only got to people to sign up for more information, I still had fun.  It was the quickest two hours of my life.

I am trying to find different ways to get the word out about my classes.  I ordered business cards with the basic information and my instructor email address on them. They are really cute blue with zebra stripes on the left side.  I can't wait until they arrive.  I also started a blog with class information on it. After I have some classes, I will also post student work on it.  It will be fun for people to see their work online!! Right now I only have August's class information on it, but I will add to it as time progresses.  Check it out at www.funjewelryclasses.blogspot.com.

Some Like it Hot...

...and some don't.  Earrings, that is.  I was working on a pair of earrings this evening before my date with my DH (dear husband), and something went terribly awry.  I was on the last step, soldering on the posts, and could taste success!  But, alas, the old adage is true...pride goeth before the fall!  One earring turned out beautifully, and one turned out, well, not so beautiful.  In my state of euphoria, I applied a bit too much (well, maybe more than a bit) heat while applying the post and part of the earring melted (not the solder part that was supposed to melt).  So much for that complete pair of earrings I planned to make before my date...live and learn!  I now know to watch the heat. Tomorrow it will only be HOT outside of my house, not inside too (hee! hee!).

I will start over on the second earring tomorrow; I decided to give it a rest tonight.  I will also not count my chickens before they hatch (wow! I'm full of cliches tonight, aren't I?).

Experience is the best teacher, huh?!

Teaching Classes...

I am officially a Bead Corner Design Academy certified instructor and will be teaching classes at my local Michaels store.  My first class is August 11 from 6:30-8:30.  The class will be on designing and creating memory wire jewelry with beads and charms.  I am very excited and look forward to the experience!

If you live in the College Station area, you can sign up for the class at Michael's.  Bring a friend and come have fun with us!

I finally get to combine my love of jewelry making and my love of teaching!!
